Regiment: 1st Michigan Light Artillery Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Hd Qrs Battery F 1st Mich Lt Artillery Newbern NC March 2nd 1865 General Orders No 3 The Comd’g Officer from his experience during the March Since leaving Nashville has became convinced of the necessity of forming a new detachment to be designated a Detachment of Shirks. To this will be assigned all those members of the Battery who are too lazy and worthless to perform Such duties as may devolve upon them from time to time thereby forcing worthy men and good Soldiers to do that, which Such cowardly Shirks are but too willing to have them perform. Whilst they sneak off to some hiding place and remain until all the work is accomplished. The duties of the members of this detachment will be varied. Such as digging sinks policing camp and General super numeraries. The members will be assigned thereto as rapidly as men are men are found whom the Officers decide are entitled to a position in this new organization. BD Paddock Capt Comdg Battery
