Burnside Washington Sept 10 /62 Dear Friend Elisa Fisher I received youre kind and welcom letter yester Day & your likeness & Glad was I indeed I looks tip top all those that saw them said they looked good I think so I am a fraid that I shal loose them I hope to live to take them and I home Well Elisa I went throug some danger sence I herd from you But the good lord saw it fit to spare my life yet we had hard time for the last 4 [  ?  ] our folk never will know what we went through & it tis as well but all our Boys ar all right yet the Michigan 17 & 24 got her the 17 is with us I saw Cpt Buros to day we sent much time to write for we dont lay over more then one night in one place I hop that this will soon Be over one way or the other we got licked lik fun thay drove us on this sid of the potomac & there one hundread thousand of the crossed one in may er have [  ?  ] is were we want then we cant do nothing [  ?  ] then in [  ?  ] we ar after those that crossed we left day be fore yester Day from Washington under Burnsid the rabels ar to Fredrick in my ere [  ?  ] the new recrutes ar comeing like fun all the Boy ar well I learn that you stick to youre school Well I no you must be tired of it I wish I could mak you a visit Well I do I wish I had more time to write I hent wrote But three letters in three weak [  ?  ] I use to average 10 per weeak But I cant writ and fight boath But you must not [  ?  ] patron of my letter you must write all th muse and when I see you I will make it all up in [  ?  ] ther I must fallin and [  ?  ] So good by for to Day from your unworthy Friend D McBain to E Fisher Direct Co F 8 Mich Infantry Washington DC Give my love to all the girls that I no and excep a bunch youre self       Good by Write Soon
