Regiment: 1st Michigan Engineers Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Nashville July 25th /65 Well Met I will now try and answer your very kind letter that I have just had the pleasure of perusing I tell you I was very glad to hear from you and to hear that you were well for I hadent recd but one letter from you since we came here and I begun to think that you were either sick you had for gotten me your letter found me well. George isent very well, we are havening first rate times down here now but it is pretty warm weather to be comfortable. I was over to Co. H last sunday the boys were all well they think that we will be home before a great while but I dont know a bout it I hope so at least dont you but I blieve that they are trying to see how mean they can use this side show of ours. I had a good visit with Frank house to day he just came from home he has been home on a furlough he was in the 4th Cav. But has been transfered in to the [  ?  ] I should like to be home to visit the last day of your school but that just my luck I cant never be any where when I want to be lately but I every where I dont want to be but if the government would give us all we could eat I wouldent care quite so much, but we dont get as much to eat now as we used to when we dident get any thing and I had rather be at home for my part for I never spent money so fast in my life as I have since we were paid off and I dont know if I ever shall, but I think that you had aught to give me a credit mark Met for I havent learned to play cards or swear or drink whiskey yet, dont you think that that is doing pretty well for your big bro hey? If you do say so, well I must go and sign the clothing roll imediately. There that is done with and so much nearer home. If I have got any home, but I guess that I havent got any for I sent father $100 and wrote him a letter the 28th of last month and I havent heard any think of it yet I suppose that you are at home now and I would like to have you write all the news for I havent heard what pa was doing this somer.
