Regiment: 3rd Michigan Cavalry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Arlington Vanburen Co Mich Aug 13th 1864 Dear Friend Jane I rec your welcome mes- sage last mail & it found us well & enjoy- ing ourselves well for Freds sister Mary & Husband just arrived but a few moments before it came their presence did not hin- der me from stealing away to some quiet nook to peruse that [ ? ] sheet of friend ship For I know it [ ? ] news of my little bird & its mother I am glad she is well & yourself to. And the rest of the family We have had a very nice shower of late so it is cool and pleasant. Is very much like rain this afternoon but I had rather it would not for Fred has not got his oats in yet if they are wet again it will injure the straw very much if not any thing more Jane I tell you I have [faded] Mother goes blackberrying And you are gone I have to stay alone Oh! if Fred is drafted what will I do, for you know that my life would not be a very pleasant one, if I staid here, by avocation would be feeding pig miling cow drawing & chopping as usual That would be nothing if he could be with me, merry are the sleepless nights I have had pondering over the sorrow that awaits me. My Dear friend you can eympathize with me. If it should be my misfortune to be deprived of my husband. Thare I have just got scart out of my wits Fred came up I am seat as you know I always, am on the stoop went to opening and shulling the cham ber down It did frighten me some but pretty soon, he stuck his head and of the door then we had a [faded] He said tell Jane that we think of her every day for her large [faded] stands at the head of our bed & give trude a big kiss & you a little smaller for you & a still smaller one for mary & Comple- ments Daniel. I have just got home I went to meet mother & help her bring her berries [ ? ] went with her & they both got last we did not get any letters from the boy. Grand Father is quite sick I believe all the rest are well. I am so made because I got those blots on this letter I could fight I hope you will excuse it condition & let me [ ? ] see it. Laura is well went down to Ecklers to night. Jane Mrs Taylor has got [ ? ] a fine [ ? ] with some of the school scholars & they sent her a make she said she built another & a sacrifice of the snake & a pair of stocking that what the fuss [ ? ] about [ ? ] the [ ? ] & ashes up to god & prayed to God to forgive the wicked folks & chil- dren over this.
