Neb your very kind letter of the 20th [   ?   ] is before us it [   ?   ] tto Dexter the 24th but I have ben so busy the last two weeks gathering apples that I have shersley taken time to eat but of corse had to eat or I could not work I have got to be like an old horse work on my [  ?  ] we are usually well and hope these few lines will find you the same R. P. Gnegy went up to Custer County and was well plessed with the country he found a quarter [     ?     ] that had been taken by a nother man and thought he could buy him out I see him last evening and he said that he had not hird from the man yet I think he said that the man lived in Ohio I told him I believed Ira could get him a claim and mentioned Lydies claim to him asked him hour he would like it he said in case he could get it reasonable and that it was not to sandy he would like to get it or some other claim that was a good one Rick would make a good neighbor in my opinion he is a republican and I think he is honest at least I have alwise found him so he is a hard working man and I think a man that attends to his own business In case you want to sell that claim of Lydies and dont hold it so hight that he can not but it let me know the best that can be done at return mail and give me a map of just how it lays and how it joines yours I told him that I thought the school house was on the corner of it but he is like you would never kneede a school house so for as he is conserned I am glad you enjoy those apples in case I hadent thought they would be a deer present after all I think the 3 [   ?   ] would have went for we have a plenty this year 135 of one kind 240 besides what I had give away and sold I have at this writing 220 in the cellar of corse some of them would not be merchantable say 200 at present merchantable apples we had a letter from Spids last night they are well as usual, we have ben having splendid weather since I sent those apples up to last night it rained and has rained more or less all day to day I dident raize any potatoes this year onley in my garden I got 24 bushel for 11 ½ bushel of apples let us here from you soon as every your father and mother Simonds [On Envelope:] Return to [  ?  ] Simonds Dexter, Iowa, If not delivered within 10 days.
