Regiment: 2nd Michigan Cavalry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: June 8                Tryhune Tenn Miss Clara Dear I received a letter from you yester day and one some time ago and i could not ancer it till now and I halve to borrow pen and ink to do it I halve left all of my things back in Nashville and now I halve to do as I can or byemore and they cost a little hear to bye to a pen and money is giting scarce to and hard to git well I must tell you a little fun that we had last Monday they tried to take Franklin we had left thare and came hear twelve miles with me hird firing and we started for them thare was a regiment a head of us and so we did not [  ?  ] out eny [   ?   ] vance nor scouts thare was twice amberlance a head of us and the regiment a head [   ?   ] of [   ?   ] to up and they amberlace run in to them and the rebles fired at them and they came raining back and then it was our time to go a head and we run in among them before we could see them they opened a fear full sire on up the cold round came whising and busing like bees around their hive when aroused then came their chears and order to charge on up but in a wink of an eye we sprang from our horses and our well tried guns to our fases and a dredfull sound went for the what soldiers calls making them bit the dust meney or rider went to the ground and some never to a rise our horses went running back for life then behind up cetch them for us then the others companys came in to the fight they made three stands but was hured back fare they had time to make a charge they lost theyre flage of [  ?  ] made of silk and golding lace, which was [        ?        ] staf flage and nine killed another field and ten wounded one died after weards, and eighteen or more ten prisners our Co had seven horses wounded no men hirt bad had on killed and two wounded one did the next morning C K are shot in the hand the 9 PA ban was on the left and they had one or three wounded we chased then or [  ?  ] ar more and it got so dark that we could not see them and we left them to make their way south 6 Key ban [   ?   ] one wagan of [     ?     ] then returned to us at Franklin they had more men then we had we fit three regiment of them and two of us they said they new by the sound of our gang that they was fighting the mich devils and they rather run then stay and fight us, we was out yesterday and thare was some firing the first Tenn Calv. lost one killed and one wounded but we did not see eny they was a fraid to come up to us but went the other way I must close and bid you a good bye again my brother sent a box thrue to you father with two pare of brits for me if his wife sends for them let hir take them and two blankets that had a strap around them and a bed tick in the last I sent I halve no more room to write excuse this bad speling write soon from your love and to myne Ira Graves Clara thare was some money sent to your father from [   ?   ] [   ?   ] [On Envelope:] Miss Clara Simonds Watrandsville Tuscola County Mich
