Regiment: 10th Michigan Infantry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Camp 10th Mich. Murfresboro, Tenn. July 22, 1863 Dear Brothers I received your letter in due time we was then in Nashville. we started from there on the 20th and arrived here last midnight. We marched 18 miles the 1st day and 12 yesterday. I don’t know how long we shall stay here but hope we shall go on to the front. the weather is cool and quite comfortable. I enjoyed the march first rate, should like no better than to march straight on to Chattanooga. I would then see Dick and Uncle Wms. Boys. They are all down that way. I hear from them quite often. I rec’d a letter from Destamona a few days ago. She spoke of Wm. being wounded. I wish you would write and tell me all about how he got wounded and where he is. I would write to him if I knew where he is but suppose he is not with the Regt. there is no news from this Army. they are advancing but find no enemy. I just got a morning paper. it says Morgan and his force is captured. I hope it is true. I think their will not be much more fighting. I hear story are drafting if there is any prospect of Lewis or George having to go. you had better let them volunteer in some Regt. now in the field. I don’t know as either of them would have to go. at least only one but I never would be drafted. now I dont say this to encourage the Boys to enlist, for I know you need them boath, but it would do either of them no harm to serve a few months in the Army and if they were going in could choose this Regt. which would be much better than to be drafted. I never have been sorry that I enlisted and would not be out of the service if I had my discharge would enlist again. My health was never better. I have been in 2 years lacking 2 months. I don’t think the war will last until my time is out. It seems to be the general opinion that the war will not last more than 6 months. Give my best Respects to all, write soon and tell M. how the Boys are getting along. do you get the Nashville Union regular if any numbers fail to go through write and tell M. what number and date no more this time. from your Son, J.A.
