Dear Wife,
I take my pen in hand to let you know that I have not forgotten you nor my poor children. I am in Camp now; I have been here three days. I don’t know how long I shall stay here or in Nashville and do detached duty this winter
i wish I could see you and know how you air giting along this morning i dont want you to sufer for nothing while you have money i donte want you to lend any money without my consent nor hire any out out without my consent to any body no mater how it may be if you have any more than you want let me know and if Al wants it i will let him have it on good seburity I want it in a shape so that if I am taken away, my children can have it and be sure of it. I want to know if you have anything from the Relief Fund yet. I want you to keep that certificate I sent home with Al; and if I should not get back, it will secure a pension for you for life if you want it.
But you need not fear, I shall return home all right before long. If they put me in the field, if they put me in the hospital, I can stand it as long as anybody else.There is no danger of our going into the field this winter, and by spring I am in hopes the war will be over.
Tomorrow we will vote for President. I am going to vote for old Abraham. I can learn more here in one week than I could in three months there about the affairs of the Country.
I sent you fifty dollars, and one silver ring, and one army hat band, and one white handled, four-bladed knife, six of my photographs and one of Baldwin’s, five of Mother’s with one album to put them in i want you to rite me and tell me all the particulars about the family and what Al is adoing and if your other brother is there i want to know how what that the neighbors upto if you can rit to me every week i want you to rite and i will rite whenever i can get time I want you to rite to mate and tell her where I am tell her I want her to rite to me I am lonsum here and a leter from any body would be a pleasure I have a great deal of company here but it is not the company I want I now see the most lonsum ours I ever saw in my life I sent you a paper from Bellfontain Ohio and a book from a place in Indiana I donte remember the name I sent you a leter this morning I began it the first day day after we got here but had not time to finish it till this morning I will write to Almina to day God bless you
