Dear Companion, I again write a few lines to let you know I am in a living condition yet. I have not gained much strength yet. The doctor is a going to send me to the Convalescent Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky that is one hundred and eighty miles north east of here. There is about 50 of us a going there tonight. I got a letter yesterday morning. I do not want any chopping done or anything to use what money you have got. I have drawn no pay yet nor I don’t know when I will. I want you to keep what money you have got for to take cair of your self and Children i want you to try clothes for you self to be comfortable and keep now clothed warm so he can do the chores for you if i get my pay i will send you fifty dolars you must not say any thing a bout it for fear sum body may get it for you. Our regiment all but one hundred has gone to Chicago with prisoners and the rest is a going today. I will finish this when I get to Louisville. January the 8th, 1865 Nashville, Tenn. Section 6, Tent 5/Hospital number 2 on College Hill My dear wife, I have moved from the post hospital to hospital number 2. When I began writing this letter, I did expect to go to Louisville. But when we got ready to go, we could not for our regiment was here. They could not send us out of the state. Our regiment will leave here in a few days, then I will go to Louisville although I am in good quarters now. Our tent is forty feet long and sixteen wide with one stove, and a floor, and 15 beds. There is 3 men with us who cannot sit up. I am gaining fast for I have got over the diarrhea. My lungs is all that troubles me now. I want you to fill an envelope with tea and send it to me to your boy. I cannot get any here that is good. My dear, I will write soon again.
