Regiment: 1st Michigan Cavalry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: DC Carver Hospital Washinton December 24th My Dear Parents Your kind letter bearing date of 14th and 20th was recieved by me to day. I was a usual glad to hear from you again. but very sory to hear of the death of little Carey. I had heard from a letter from Orla that he had been Scalded. but at the time he wrote he did not know how bad it was I feel very sorry for Abigal Try and comfort her all you can. This will be hard news for Frank to hear. was the 19th Engaged at Knoxville —- I have recieved that box you sent me. the next day I wrote you a letter. the selection of things you things put in the box wer first rait I could not hav made as good a one if I had been there myself. Mother I tell you thoes peaches were just the things I wanted My health is not as good as when I you last I have been having the ague some. and have got a very bad cold but I hope I shall be all right in a few days —- I suppoes the people in Mich are enjoying them selve at a terible rate to da but as for the Soldier one day is as good as an other although we have had a very good time here to day. we have had a first rait dinner.- We are having pretty busy times here since the session of Congress and there is quite an excitement here among the Soldiers as there has been in several propositions to rais their pay You say the Presidents message and Proclomation is the great theme of conversation there. what do people think of it there. I think any man that will find falt with that is a perfict Copperhead. I do not know as you can read what I have written as I do not feel like writing so O will bid you good bye for this time hoping to hear from you again soon Remember me to Cary
