Nashville Tenn June 6 /62 Dear Sister i received yours of the first to day and was glad to hear that you were all well and that our folks were a doing well i hope they will continue to do so.. i shall in the hospital for som time and mabe all summer for the docttor there is no use of sending men out in the sun to to do duty that cannot sand it i just as leaf say here we plenty to to eat and drink and nothing to do but sweep the floor once in while i have not much money on hand now the boys owes me a good deal and i did not draw my pay the last pay day being in the hospital but on next pay day if i am where i can draw my pay and send it i shall send forty or fifty dollars if i draw it though i may be where i cant send it home.. the of late are very if such news continue a few longer the war must come to speedy close which is the genarl opinion of all it canot much longer anyhow they are fed on half rations and some times not that this is assertained by rebel derserters that come in to the union camps every day in large numbers not but a few days ago near Corrinth the took 1000 rebels and 1500 stand of arms without any fighting at all when they evacuated Cor rinth and general bureaguard found that they were persued he told his men to save themselve the best way they could when they trew away tere guns knapsacks and there equipages and fled in every direction in wild confusion and will never be got to geather again McCelelen is driving the enemy from Richmond and most likely has done it be fore now the last news he was within five miles of the city and the enemy moved out of the city with all of these callaminties they cannot fight much longer [ ? ] you beter believe i was tickled as a wagon and laughed like an ox whehen i read that nancy was well come very [ ? ] my self i hope if you should maried i hope they bell for three nights i would if i was there write as soon as you can can after you get this and write all the news direct to the same place these fewe lines leave me well and i hope they will find you the same yours with respect        E..M..Combs [On Envelope:] Miss Angeline Combs Matteson, Branch Co Michigan
