Regiment: 9th Michigan Infantry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: John H. Morgan Camp Parkhurst Murfreesboro Tenn May 11th 1862 Dear Parents it is with pleasure that I now improve this opportunity of answering your letter which I received the 9th and was glad too hear from you again I now get my letters more regular than I did I am well at present and so is the rest of the Sebewa boys with the exception of one or two who is not quite as well as they wear when I wrote last Tobias is getting razed again and [ ? ] he has ben trouble a little with the diarhea but the Dr stopt that in double quick time that is all I belief that has ben the matter with him and that is nothin for that is a daily occurance being most of the sick in camp the Reg is in good helth now and anchios for a fight ever since we have had that chace after Morgan two days after the fight at lebanon they brought the prisoners to this place and was put abord of the cars and sent too Nashville whare they safely arived as some of our boys went as guard up there and helpt two put them into the jail whare they will be sent two some other port the regiment went down and esca ted them into town as I did not go down with the regiment (but afterwards) I had a good chance for seeing them they are a hard rough looking set and look as if they mite do almost anything if they onely had the courage two do it but they haint onely as they come acrost some inocent man womman or child and then they will burn their buildings and murder them and then proceed on rejoycing at their good luck and booty but I don’t think that Morgan will do the like again verry soon Father thought that I had better come home and get my discharge tell him that I cannot get my discharge without I am sick or disabel in some other way and the officers says that if a man is discharged now that he will not get his bounty money nor land. the bounty money is $100 and then the land is money too as I understand so you see Father that I had better stay till that ware is over and get all of the money that is owing tue me as I am perfectly contented two stay and now don’t worry about me I am a going two have my likeness taken the next time that we get our pay if I do not send home a cent as we expect it in again in a few days I think that you will prize my likeness more than the money I would if I could get yours as I can’t write much more I will say that our Col and Capt O C Rounds was shot at by some of the siblyeons of the place but was not hurt the Col. snapt his revolver at them but it did not go. Gen Duffield has left and gone two by Ky we feal lost without him tell Ike that I wish him and Elan much joy and remember me so good by for this time and write soon from Henry Henry
