Dear Aunt I have just received a letter from Father stating that he had just been to Mich on a visit I did not think he would ever get time to go but it seems he found time in some way. he said Mary was sick near South Bend at school also that Uncle John Byrnes was very poorly but I hope it is nothing serious I havent written to any of my Uncles or Aunts since I left in fact I havent written scarcely any only home I write home once a month that is about all. Well Aunt Vice as I used to call you I have had very good health since I came south with the exception of once last fall I was sick a few days but have very good health since. I have been in two or three skir mishes but have not been hurt I was only a few feet from William Seeder when he was killed he was struck between the eyes with a rifle Ball We were all standing on the top of a steamboat going up White river when the rebels raised up in the weeds and fired They was about four rods from the boat did you get my photograph I left with Jane I am going to get some taken here and will send you one. Is Uncle Henly still in the produce trad goods are very high here but most of the people are in the grocery business butter is selling at $1.00 per lb. eggs 80 cts. there is a great many Northern men going into business here almost all the business men are from the north.
