Regiment: 1st U.S. Volunteers Sharpshooters Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Grand Rapids Evening 10 oclock. June 17th 1865. Dear Gardie. Darling Husband. It is so very warm that I do not like to go to bed yet and I do not know of any better way to improve my time than in writing to my boy. yours of the 11th and the 13th came to night with a number of papers. for all of which please accept many thanks and at least one kisses. I have been at work to day and this evening on that silk stand spread. guess I shall get it done this time. Two monthes to morrow you have been gone. how long it seems. but if I was sure of seeing you in two months more. or even three I think I could wait quite patiently. and I guess I can in that time. I will hope so at least. So you realy think you had rather have a nice young lady encased in a fancy little chemise +c. than a basket of diamonds Well my boy wait patiently and perhaps you can sometime and then “bloew out the light” or, if you are not peticular who the young lady is perhaps you can find one there who will answer your purpose. I am not a nice young lady. but an “old married woman” but if I can find. “the fancy little chemise” I will pass will I not? thank you for sending those pictures. there is nothing wrong. You speak of my taking music lessons and wish if I like it I would put it in practice. as you have spoken about it I will tell you that I am taking lessons but as I knew you was willing I should take. I had thought I would say nothing about it and would surprise you when you got home. I have taken eight lessons take two a week and practice every day. I take of Fannie Van Winkle and she is real good teacher I think I learn real fast.                  Sunday. I must say just a few words to Gardie this morning. I guess I will go to church this morning and I want to take this to the office this noon so that it will go out in the morning. It is going to be another awful hot day and I shall be glad when it is gone. Love and kisses.love. Ever Your Wify. love me always. [On Envelope:] Lt. Gardner B. Clark. 6th Regt. 1st A.C. Washington.
