Regiment: 26th Michigan Infantry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Troy New York Sept the 6th, 1863 Dear Father and Mother I have just received a good letter from you and I was glad to hear from you. But I am sorry to hear that father was sick but I hope that this will find him better. You said that he was out of his head some of the time and he thought that I wouldn’t notice him. He must not think that but that’s nothing. I am well and so is the rest of the boys. Father, if you haven’t got any money and you can’t get any help, promise them the money and as soon as I get my pay, I will send you the money to make it all right. I will send more than I did the other time. How is your corn this fall and your potatoes? Have you got any buck wheat and how much do you think you will have? Ma, how was the pie plant this season and the garden in general? Have you got any onions or not? I should like a good mess of them now. They would taste good if ma cooked them. Oh, I can see everything at home. It seems so at least to me that big stub stands there yet but it will come down this winter if I live. I guess so. How does the cattle look and the horses and sheep and how many hogs have you got and how many have you a going to fat this fall and how many sheep is there of yours and how much wool did you sell? What did you get a pound? How much did it come to? Did you get the box of clothes of mine, what was there in it? The new blanket that was in it was mine. The old blanket was Lif’ s and all of the blankets was mine. Lif sent nothing but some cloth. Take good care of the little cup. I have drunk many a cup of coffee in that. Tell father to wear that over coat when he wants to. Take good care of that rubber blanket and do not burn it. It’s a good one. The draft is all over here. We won’t stay here long. The third and fifth Mich Infty is here in this place. I must close soon. Please excuse all mistakes and bad spelling and write. I have got lots of stamps. I got them stamps you sent to me. No more this time. Best close This from George To Father & Mother & sisters and all. Troy, New York Locke Ingham Co, Mich State.
