Fort [ ? ] Ala Feb 15th 67 Dear Knox I have the honor to acknowledge the Recpt of your form of the 10th Inst. and in answer to say that I am still in the “ripper drawer of the” Bureau for the Dist of North Alabama, and still stand forked End downwards. I have 20 Counties in my Dist. and perhap have to Manage the devilish sesech Element in this or any other state. I am however making them come to time. They all love me “like a Cat loves hot soap” But dare not Express their love. I think I am in the best Dish in the south as to Climate & Country but I no the Citizens they Still Cling to the Damnable heresay that has ruined them. Major Comoander [ ? ] I will open a “Box of Matches” and we will hoot an old fasioned time with one Exception you know that. I went to [ ? ] to see you but did not find “Knoty” in. the incumbush had a flint locked Fiario Bank which I wiped out and left for Corinth in disgust Pierce was with me Except to stay in the Bureau while in service. please write me often John B.
