Regiment: 4th Michigan Cavalry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Don C. Buell Jeffersonville Camp Oct 7, 1862 My dear Davidson You see we are still here in spite of all signs to the con- trary. We have had two or three marching alarms since I wrote but we still hold our ground. We shall go to-morrow I think to Dans- ville 100 miles South of here to join Buell’s army. Of this I have little doubt as all the ammuni- tion has been distributed and our horses just shod. We were to have gone this morning but our horses were in no condition to travel. Have you yet received my trunk! I enclose the key. My watch and other articles were in it. I have heard nothing from any one since my arri- val. If you direct a letter to “Co C 4th M.C. Louisville KY” I would probably receive it. What has been done about the Clifford payment! I have yet received nothing from Govern- ment and have but $8. to my name. so I can do nothing to help it. If necessary assign my still mortgage to Dr. H. and draw on him from the balance necessary to pay Jot. I would write more if I had time, but we are too busy packing up. From 5 A.M till 9 P.M. we are kept on the jump. Let me hear from you soon. Yours affecly R.B.
