Regiment: 4th Michigan Calvary Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Robert H. Minty, Ulysses S. Grant, William S. Rosecrans In camp near Murfreesboro May 29, 1863 My dear Davidson I have but a mo- ment to write by A. Ismen who is going home on sick leave. Our Army will probably move to-morrow, and before you re- ceive this we may be in and through another battle. Our things are all packed and ready. We expect to have an active summer campaign and are sending to Nashville all our sum- perfluous baggage. My “chist” goes up to-day and I expect to live in my satchel for the next three months. Watch the papers and see what we do. Grant is ahead just now, but that will not do. Rosecrans is going to show his metal. I will write you again as soon as I can after moving Write to me. Good bye. God bless you all. Your affect brother Robert Burns Enclosed is likeness of Col Minty which put in my album [On Envelope:] June 13, 1863 J. Davidson Burns Esq Miller & Burns Kalamazoo Michigan May 29
