Regiment: 4th Michigan Calvary Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Camp in woods 8 miles South of Murfrees June 26, 1863 My dear Davidson Here we are on the march Southward. We left camp on the morn- ing of the 24th and have been in the rain since. Our army is slowly moving, but is almost stopped by the mud. Never saw much more rain. Have been skirmish- ing and shooting as we ad- vanced. I am very much afraid that this rain is going to hurt our ad- vance.              The enemy is said to be in force about a mile from us. I am very well. never better. and in good spirits. Have to sleep on the wet ground. Can’t keep dry. Yesterday was a nice day for the 25th of June.    Never passed such a birth day. Will write whenever I can get a chance. Wrote the evening before we started. Love to all Your affec brother R Burns [On Envelope:] July 2, 1863 June 26 J.Davidson Burns Miller & Burns Kalamazoo Michigan
