Welch Comdg 16th Mich Vols Col I would respectfully ask for leave of absence for twenty (20) days on account of sickness having been requested by Col Stockton to return before I was intirely recovered from my wounds received at Bull Run no field officer being with the regiment at the time erysipelas having set in which still remains in my left hand to such an extent that I cannot use it and having received a severe fall during the engagement at Fredericksburg injuring my leg so much that I have not been enabled to do duty since, trusting this may be granted as this is the first time I have lost a days duty from sickness since I have been in the service Very Respt Your Obeident Servent Thomas J.
