Detroit Michigan March 9th 1865 Dear Colonel I have seen Gen’l Robertson today, he has telegraphed to the War Dept and will receive our answer tomorrow. In case the answer is favorable I will remain here but if not I shall return to Springfield by the day train I did not intend waiting so long but thought it useless to return without accomplishing something.
Detroit January 14th, 1864 Capt. Albert M. Edwards My Dear Captain, We arrived here last Thursday night reported to Col. Smith next day and Saturday we received our Recruiting papers. Since that time I have been asking myself in regard to my new duties looking around to see where and how I could best succeed advising and visiting with my friends.
