About the Author
Norval E. Welch, of Ann Arbor, Michigan, enlisted in the 16th Michigan Infantry Field and Staff on August 22, 1861 at Detroit, Michigan. He was mustered into service as a 26-year old Major on September 8. Welch was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel on July 6, 1862 and then to Colonel on May 18, 1863. Norval E. Welch died on September 30, 1864 at Poplar Grove Church, Virginia.Documents for this Author:
