About the Author
Sergeant Francis Raymond, Jr., of Detroit, Michigan, enlisted in the 24th Michigan Infantry Company D on July 24, 1862. He was mustered into service on August 13 at the age of 19. On April 1, 1863, he was promoted to Communication Sergeant and was promoted to 1st Lieutenant and Adjutant on April 1, 1864. Raymond was discharged for promotion on April 22 and commissioned into the 1st Michigan Infantry Field and Staff. He was wounded on May 5, 1865 at Wilderness, Virginia. Francis Raymond, Jr. was mustered out of service on July 9 at Jeffersonville, Indiana and was promoted to Captain on July 15.Documents for this Author:
