About the Author
Caleb C. E. Mortimer was residing in Boston, Massachusetts when he enlisted in the 1st Massachusetts Light Artillery on December 18, 1860 at the age of 24 as a 3rd Lieutenant. Mortimer was mustered into service on May 18, 1861. At Camp Claire in Baltimore, Maryland, he was discharged on August 2. He became 1st Lieutenant on September 5 when he mustered into the 3rd Massachusetts Light Artillery. On June 27, 1862, he was wounded at Gaines’ Mill, Virginia, where he died the following day, June 28.Documents for this Author:
