Greble, Charles E.

About the Author

Charles E. Greble, of Almont, Michigan, enlisted as a 1st Lieutenant in the 8th Michigan Cavalry Company E on November 1, 1862. He was mustered into service at the age of 26 on January 20, 1863. Greble was promoted to Captain on August 31. On November 18, he was taken prisoner at Knoxville, Tennessee and was confined at Macon, Georgia and Columbia, South Carolina. He escaped from Libby Prison in Richmond, Virginia on February 9, 1864 as a part of the great Libby Prison tunnel escape. He was later recaptured. Charles E. Greble was discharged from service on July 20, 1865 at Pulaski, Tennessee.
